“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I will praise Him.” Psalm 28:7

Over Labor Day weekend here in Oregon, hot, dry weather and strong winds created the perfect storm for the most devastating fires in our states history. As I write this tens of thousands are evacuated from their homes, lives have been lost, whole towns are gone and life as we knew it changed in a moment. In times like this we find where our foundation is, where our hope is found. It has been a scary and anxious time to say the least. But, we are seeing God’s hand in the midst of tragedy. We see how He has shielded, protected and brought people together. We are seeing neighbors helping neighbors to save their homes, people housing evacuee’s, firefighters putting their lives on the line as many of their families also were evacuated. Oregon has the worst air quality on the planet right now due to the heavy smoke. But again, we see God’s power at work because that smoke has changed our weather pattern from hot/dry to cooler temperatures and higher humidity which is helping firefighters to start to gain some ground against these fires. This is the joy we can have in times of trouble, seeing God at work in big and small ways. We can praise Him because He is in control when all we see is chaos. We can trust Him because He is trustworthy and faithful. 2020 has been quite the year and I pray wherever you are and whatever you are going through that you lean into the Lord who cares for you and has called you by name.
